Tacomans love their sushi! We asked real Tacomans where the best bites in town are, and as you can see… it was hard to narrow it down. Whether you’re craving fresh sashimi or elaborate sushi rolls, there’s something for every taste and budget to enjoy in Tacoma.

“Sushi Tama's ambiance reminds me of a neighborhood cafe in Japan,” shares Katsumi Purbeck. “They have your traditional comfort foods there. I can count on getting a quick bite without having to dress up!”
Keryn Giguere completely agrees—“[I recommend] Sushi Tama on 6th Avenue for a laid-back and authentic feel.” Along with its casual atmosphere, Sushi Tama is all about comfort and traditional Japanese sushi, and cooked dishes based on traditional, main-island staples.
Shogun Japanese Express
Located at 2009 Mildred St W 98466 Tacoma Hours: Monday - Thursday 11:30am - 9:30pm, Friday 11:30 - 10pm, Saturday 12pm - 10pm
Christine Moody highly recommends Shogun, and while she thinks the atmosphere isn’t anything special, their service makes up for it! “Angela will make you a special roll. Gari of Sushi

Hours: Monday - Saturday 11:30am - 1:30pm, Monday - Thursday 5pm - 8:30pm, Friday - Saturday 5pm - 9pm
If you’re in the mood for a huge sushi selection in a laid-back atmosphere, Gari of Sushi is at your service! “[I recommend] Gari of Sushi on S 38th for old school and traditional vibes,” shares Keryn Giguere. Their menu offers a myriad of choice, including mouthwatering options like tempura, sashimi, nigiri, rolls, a selection of entrees, dessert, and more.
Located at 1552 Commerce St #100, Tacoma
Hours: Sunday through Thursday 2pm - 9:30pm, Friday and Saturday 2pm - 10pm
“Back when The Koi was Two Koi, I used to go there for for lunch for their all-you-can-eat special. Their rolls are the hit!” shares Katsumi Purbeck. At The Koi, choose from over 30 incredible roll choices, from simple rolls with just tuna or avocado, to more elaborate options like their Rainbow Roll that’s topped with 5 kinds of sashimi and avocado!
Too hard to choose? Christine Moody has a few specific recommendations to share: “The Tuna Poki salad is our favorite, plus [I also recommend the] Heaven of Tuna Roll and Dragon Roll.”

“Fujiya is the first sushi to have opened in Tacoma over 25 years ago,” says Michael McNiel. “[They have a] very authentic style. The owner, who grew up in Japan, was classically trained in the art.”

“Sushi Niwa in the Paldo World food court is super fun,” says Michael Duggan. “Buy one roll, get the second for free! Military discount too. Also, [there are] more dining options in the rest of the food court if someone in your party isn't feeling sushi.”
