Located at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium and included in your admission to the zoo (or free with a membership!), the Pacific Seas Aquarium is finally ready for prime time! “This newly opened aquarium is an absolute delight for Tacoma residents!” shares REALTOR® Anders Ibsen. “With some of the newest, most state-of-the-art displays, families can enjoy a fun experience while also learning important lessons about conservation and the importance of our natural marine habitats.”

This impressive new aquarium highlights underwater habitats that span from the chilly waters of the Pacific Northwest down to the tropical waters of Baja California. Visitors get to see several underwater creatures face to face as well as their unique homes, and sharks, turtles, eagle rays, spider crabs, giant Pacific octopus, jellyfish, and many other creatures can all be spotted in the captivating tanks.

A few other not-to-miss highlights of the aquarium include:

  • Gorgeous jellyfish art: Local artist Kait Rhoads created some wonderfully colorful and truly jaw-dropping pieces of art for the aquarium.
  • The Giant Pacific Octopus: The Puget Sound is home to some of the largest octopus in the entire world, and now you can see one of these magnificent sea creatures up close and personal. These massive octopus can grow to be up to 15 feet across and weigh 50 pounds.
  • Baja Bay: This 280,000 gallon tank is home to green sea turtles, spotted eagle rays, moray eels, hammerhead sharks, and more!

There’s much more to do and see at the aquarium, and they have plans to add additional creatures and attractions over time. Take a look at the Point Defiance blog for updates!
