Serving the specific real estate needs of seniors requires a lot of expertise and experience. For Windermere Professional Partners Realtor Shirley Knoop, (a senior herself!) serving the senior community in Pierce County is more than just her specialty, it is her passion. Before becoming a Realtor Shirley Knoop spent 30 years as a nurse. These years as a nurse greatly influenced the approach she would later apply to real estate. She developed compassion, patience, and a no-pressure approach that gives her a particular advantage with seniors.

According to Shirley, the questions seniors are asking themselves are very different than those making moves earlier in their lives. They also like to take their time making decisions before deciding what their next move will be. That move could be to downsize, move in with family or into a retirement home. “There are many questions,” says Shirley, “Do we want to defer a change, are we too busy to think through all the options, how much time does it take to investigate what is out there… it can all be a bit overwhelming.”

When the National Association of Realtors came out with a special training program and a “Seniors Real Estate Specialist” designation in 1998 Shirley was the first Realtor in Pierce County to complete the training and earn the designation. Shirley now offers a “Moving On” guide for seniors considering making their move. To contact Shirley and request a guide (or just get in touch and have a chat) visit Shirley Knoop’s website here.
